![]() I don't think it matters since DMC games difficulty has come from trying to perfect the content not survive it. But the dozens of gold orbs are just jail free cards if you don't care about your post level rank and you get drowned in them. If anything being able to buy continues with red orbs seems fair as it directly affects your ability to upgrade and you lose something valuable that will stunt your character growth if you fail too often (similar to losing souls if you fail to retrieve them in Dark Souls) and pretty much every player will realize that's a considerable punishment that should be avoided by playing better. Heck, the well hidden ones are a major letdown when you discover them in a secret area because you already got so many of them and wish you had gotten an orb piece or even just pretty much anything else (even just a single red empusa) instead, something which at least gets you some red orbs, instead of another pointless golden orb. They are just too plentiful and extremely easy to find. I just finished the second Dante level in DMC5, and even without daily bonuses I got like 13 gold orbs. And if you lost that fight you had to redo the entire level. ![]() ![]() Let's not even start with DMC3, where even in the easier SE version you'll still have your but kicked on normal difficulty by several bosses, Dark Souls style, forcing you to learn their patterns to win the fight (which funny enough really helped me get into Dark Souls 1 back when it released). ![]() That said, because of the proud souls/red orb split you'd still end up able to buy two or three extra gold orbs near the end of the game because once you bought all blue and violet orbs there wasn't anything useful to buy with red orbs (healing stars were better because they had less impact on post mission ranks, but still, eventually those got pricy too), but especially early in the game you had a real risk of running out of healing items if you played badly and having to repeat levels or at least boss fights. Considering how difficult one of those was to get, realistically you would get two orbs to work with. In DMC4 you could find like 3 gold orbs in the wild throughout the entire game. Yeah, gold orb inflation is a major issue. Sure, I can just ignore it, but I hate seeing other people ruin the experience without even realising it. There are already difficulty options, why not have something like a dmc3 style "easy mode is now unlocked" if people are really having trouble. I've seen a lot of people play this game and not even learn how to do it because of how many gold orb revives you can acquire especially if you play a short time each day (daily gold orb), and then even dipping into red orb revives which just trivialised the entire game, and prevented them from actually learning and enjoying the mechanics. Personally I still find it kind of annoying that microtransactions are there, however not just microtransactions, but the entire reviving mechanic thats possible.
